It’s that time again. It happens every year (or multiple times a year, if you’re like me). You’re feeling the urge to refresh that room and give it a quick update. You KNOW painting those walls is the fastest way to give it a facelift, but sometimes the whole process just feels like, well…a PROCESS.
First, you have to gather all the many things you need. Including drop cloths, paint brushes, paint roller, paint roller handle, roller tray, roller tray liner, AND let’s not forget the damp rag for any “whoops” situations. I know I’m not the only one with “whoops!”. 😉
All is going along fine and dandy. Until someone – who shall remain nameless – accidentally loses
his her their grip on the paint can and it ends up splashing obscene amounts a little paint all over the place, soaking through the drop cloth you had carefully laid down, you know…to be safe. And responsible. That damp rag you’ve got on hand? Yeah…it isn’t even going to come close to cleaning up this mess.
So BEFORE any of that happens (and I sincerely hope it never happens to you), let me introduce you to my new BFF. This baby is slicker than snot AND it was my magic wand for this room.

Behold. The HomeRight PaintStick EZ-Twist.
The Fastest Way to Paint Any Room
Here’s a quick before shot. You can’t see it very well in these pics, but the two greys were actually quite purple-y in most lighting. And it made me cringe. Not to mention, this poor room ended up being the dumping ground for all the things that didn’t have a home. Basically, it had just kind of turned into a hot mess. Bless.
And let’s be honest. That light fixture had to go. It’s plastic, cheap stuff and just…no.
I can’t wait to show you my new chandelier I found on Craiglist!
After I painted the trim and did the edging, I loaded up my Home Right PaintStick EZ-Twist.
So ridiculously easy. Like, embarrassingly so. I set the stopwatch on my phone and got to work.
I had the first coat on the entire room in 24 minutes – and that was with TWO interruptions from my little
stinkers cherubs. Had I been able to work uninterrupted, I’m guessing I would have clocked in at about 20 minutes.
Imma let that sink in for a minute.
I’ve never rolled a room in twenty minutes before. Ever.
To say I was pretty giddy about this is an understatement. No room in my house is safe now. “Fresh white paint for every room!!” 😀
The Room Reveal
Here’s the chandy! I found this beauty for $35 on Craigslist AND she was already painted the perfect color!! I may have done a happy dance. Ever since I stole the black chandy out of here to put in my $100 home office room makeover, this room was a little sad and felt a little naked. But no more. This lovely lady is the crowning beauty of the room.
The vintage mirror is one my Mom gave me a long time ago. It was hanging by our back door, but I decided to give it a new home (shopping the house, you know). And the little shelf underneath (while admittedly a smidge small), is one my Mom made. I figure it’ll be nice to have in here. It provides a place for guests to put their makeup, cell phones, etc.
I brought in the blanket ladder that we built – it provides added texture and blankets if it gets chilly.
Friends, if I can do this in between school runs, appointments, running older boys to soccer, and small child meltdowns, anyone can. (and yes, that all happened on the day I was painting this room) YOU CAN DO IT! This little beauty is your key.
Have some books on hand for guests to look through if they like. These sit next to the wingback chair I recovered several years ago with the help of a sweet friend. Find Miss Mustard Seed’s Lookbook 2 here and The Nesting Place here.
As with any project, the prep time (I’m looking at you, painting trim and edging) and the clean up are the time consuming parts. But be that as it may.
As I was working in here, my 5 yr. old came in and hopped up on the bed with my new favorite book, A Touch of Farmhouse Charm, in hand and started flipping through the pages, looking at all the fun projects. He asked, “Mommy, can we can make some of these things?” Apparently he knows good stuff when he sees it! Oh yes, sweet boy, we’ll be making all kinds of “these things”! 😉
The next thing I’m wondering is if I should paint the bedroom set with my beloved Finish Max Sprayer. (I have the matching dresser in another room.) This is the bedroom set I grew up with and I’m seriously contemplating whether I should paint it or let it be. Tell me what you think in the comments! And then share this fun project all over kingdom come.
Now it’s Your Turn
So, sweet friend, that room that’s been eyeballing you and begging for a fresh new look? Don’t make her wait anymore. I bet you’ll have that room spiffed up in under 30 minutes a coat! (I’m giving you a little extra time to brew a pot of coffee. Every great painting project involves a cuppa joe.)
