Confession:
I’m so “over” seeing these “budget home decor ideas” – only to find out the “budget” being referenced is big enough to feed my family of six for three months straight. Can I get an amen?

Give me Easy Home Decor Ideas
You know that old not-so-cute mirror you’ve got stashed away in your basement? It’s time to dig it out. A fresh coat of paint will do WONDERS. See how Kim from Farmhouse Made transformed this one for her bathroom!
For the cost of a sample size jar of paint from any paint store, you can have a great new accent piece! Add a couple cute hooks or vintage knobs for hanging and voila! A brand new place to hang bathroom towels, lightweight jackets, or even just a cute garland.
Pom Pom Garland for Everyone
Those pom pom garlands you’ve drooled over in magazines, catalogs, and the stores in which you can only afford to browse through? See me now – I’m standing up on my little soapbox and joyfully yelling, “You can make these for SO CHEAP!”
Check out how Stephanie from One Mile Home Style made this gorgeous, fluffy pom pom garland! FRIENDS. This is so easy.
Say it with me: Paint is my Friend!
Yard sale and garage sale season is fast approaching. There are even lots of online sale site now for most areas. Guess what? Scour those sales, friends. People are upgrading their lighting and getting rid of all their old chandeliers – and selling them for dirt. cheap. Snatch one up – look past the ugly finish because Lisa at The Purple Hydrangea shows how to upgrade an old chandy for the cost of a sample jar of paint.
While she used a special chalk mix and added it to her paint (and it’ll still be under $20), if you wanted to keep the cost down even more, you could either just use spray paint or you could purchase some chalk paint ready-made. Whatever you prefer and whatever is cheapest. The point is just keep your eyes open for those discarded chandeliers. π
Let’s Break out the Hot Glue Gun
I’ve used a hot glue gun for countless things, but THIS is a new favorite! Take a cheap container and hot glue some cool rope around it to give it a huge upgrade! This one from Toni of Small Home Soul gives me all the heart eyes. I love the effect she achieved by putting this gorgeous plant in hers. Such a fabulous way to give a custom look for just a few dollars.
An Easy Build
This blanket ladder is one I made with Mr. 1915 a while ago and we are STILL using it and it’s holding up beautifully. In one afternoon, for far less than $20, you can build this ladder – no special tools needed.
So the next time you find yourself bummed because you see all those beautiful spaces with lovely accents?
Remember that there’s almost always a way to DIY something to get a similar look. Don’t be disheartened because you’re on a tight budget. There are so many ways to created a beautiful home – even if you’ve only got $20 to spare.
From one budget-minded sister to another…”you’ve got this!” π {hugs}
Tell me your favorite DIY you’ve done for under $20 – I’d love to hear!
I LOVE finding blogs about homes that look like real families live there but are still beautiful, and created on real family budgets too. I left blogging for awhile because it seemed like everything was so expensive, bloggers were spending tons of money constantly redoing their homes, and instead of feeling inspired, I started feeling inadequate. I came back with a mission to find blogs that speak to me, and yours does just that. I love your home and style and can’t wait to read through your older posts.
Warmly, Gloria
Gloria, Your words have warmed my heart and I totally know what you mean. I, too, was tired of seeing “budget makeovers” on blogs only to realize their “budget” would feed my family for two months straight!! That’s not a budget, to me. So I started my blog in hopes of reaching other people just like me who wanted a beautiful home – on a *real-life, super-tight* budget. I’m so glad to have met you here and I hope to connect with you again and again! Wishing you all the best as you start blogging again – I know you’ll be successful. π <3
You sold me! What a coach you are. Love the persuasion in your argument of easy and a real budget. Of course everything you show here looks way more than a $20 project, so that is a true winner.
Aw, thank you, Debbie! And you’re right – the projects that cost very little and still look like a million bucks are the best! π Have a great day!
I’m so glad you liked these, Debbie! And you’re so right – the projects that cost very little and still look like a million bucks are the best ones! π Have a lovely day!
My sweet friend! Thank you for including my mirror in this list! I must say, I do love a good cheap project!! They are probably my favorite thing to do. There is no reason to spend gobs of money on projects that we can do ourselves – that leaves us so much more money to do other projects!
Right?! Saving money with DIYs leaves us more money for COFFEE or CHANDELIERS!! π π
Nice roundup! I’m always looking for creative ways to use things I already have. These 5 ideas are simply terrific.
Thank you, Susie! I’m glad you enjoyed these ideas- have a great day!
YES!!! DIY decor on the cheap is me!!! I love all of these projects…now I am thinking about adding hooks and knobs to our mirror in the bathroom π
lol!! Right? Hooks and knobs make a mirror so much more useful! π
Hey friend, thanks for including my Rope Planter Basket in your roundup. It was so easy and I think maybe it cost $15 for the thrift store container and the rope. In the stores? Who knows, they’d probably want $45 or more.
I love all the other projects too, there is no reason to spend tons of money on stuff, unless you want to π and I like a bargain and getting my creative on π
xoxo
I loved your rope basket!! And I totally agree about getting our creative on!! π It’s so gratifying! Have a great day!!
Well my Mr. France built me a ladder like yours and I Love it.
WOOOHOOO!!! It makes me so happy to hear that someone has built my blanket ladder!! So glad to hear that you love it! <3
