Don’t believe the lie that you have to make huge changes to achieve a living room refresh you’ll love. Sometimes, all you need is a fresh coat of paint…
I shared the wrangly-tangly wrestle with white paint colors in this room here in this post – and now, I’m happy to share with you the final result.
It was worth all the hassle of not settling for a color I knew I’d hate. No room in your house deserves for you to give it the stink eye every time you walk in. 😉

The people at Behr were so sweet, so kind, and so understanding about me changing the color on them. I can’t say enough good things about this company. The next time you find yourself in need of super high quality paint that covers like a dream and holds up really well to the fingerprints of 4 boys…head to Home Depot – Behr Marquee is your answer.
A paint that can withstand a family of six
As you know from this post, I ended up choosing Behr Marquee Ultra White and I LOVE it. The wall going up this stairway gets touched by so many hands, multiple times a day and I needed a paint that could hold up to all the scrubbing that inevitably happens.
And yes, I have white sofas – two, actually. We’ve had these lovelies for almost two years now and I adore them. They hold up beautifully to the rough-housing of our four boys and big dog. Thank the Good Lord for washable slipcovers. 😉
I hold firmly to the belief that our home is meant to be lived in.
I’ve had a few sweet comments (concerns?) on the fact that I have so much white in my home, and it makes me smile. Everything is washable or paintable/scrubbable. (That white chair below is even painted. A $10 thrifted velvet chair got a coat of paint and it’s still one of my faves.)
Yes, we eat all over the house, drink hot cocoa and coffee in front of this fireplace all the time. And yes, drinks get spilled, kids get sick, and the dog sometimes tracks muddy paw prints on the sofas…but nothing in this house is too precious or too perfect.
Life is meant to be lived, and memories are meant to be made. Our home is totally “lived in” and if you were ever to stop over unexpectedly, you would undoubtedly find legos and toys strewn everywhere, the slipcovers most likely in need of a good laundering…and the kitchen floors in need of mopping.
Just keeping it real, sisterfriend. 😉
So make those memories.
Have those tickle-wars with your kids on the couch. Throw the toy for the dog. Build the legos. Have a checkers marathon…life it too short to be worried about things that won’t matter in ten years.
And the walls of your house? They hold the stories and secrets of a life well lived…and when they are beyond scrubbing anymore, pick your favorite color and paint them with Behr Marquee. It’s MADE to hold up beautifully to Life.
