Are you satisfied with where you are – with WHO you are? How do you know when to pivot? A heart to heart and my story…
Are you a resolution maker? A goal setter? A One Word person?
I’m not a resolution maker, but I AM a goal setter and a One Word person.
Full confession time:
I haven’t wrestled over my “one word” in previous years as much as I’ve wrestled with this one. I don’t know why. But I keep coming back to this word, so here it is.
“Freeeeedoooom!!!” No, not that kind. Not the Braveheart kind of freedom. 😉 I’m thinking of a different kind.
- Time freedom.
- Schedule freedom. (is there such a thing with kids in sports and school and whatnot?)
- Freedom to not feel like I have to put in 40-50 hours a week in order to barely stay ahead of all the projects and work that needs to get done.
Are you surprised that DIY blogging takes that much time? Yeah…I was, too. But it really is a full. time. job…and then some.
Please hear my heart.
I love blogging. It’s such a fun gig and gives me a creative outlet – plus, it forces me to get stuff done in my house. 😀 But that’s not even the best part.
You know what I’ve found my favorite part is? I get to encourage and help other women, just like you, who are wanting to make a beautiful home on a budget. That’s my favorite part. Being able to love on and encourage you, my readers – and those of you in my Facebook groups.
*Not yet in my Facebook groups? Well, hop on over, sweet friend! I’d love to have you.
Here’s the thing…
As I closed out 2017 and took most of a day to look over the year, to write down all the best parts, and order my Chatbook full of photos, I’ll be honest. Looking through all the pics on my phone to find photos of my kids and family….and realizing that over 90% – *OVER NINETY PERCENT* – of the photos on my phone were blog/work related, I felt my heart drop like a stone into my stomach.
If the photos on my phone were any sort of gauge of where my focus was, then it was time for a shift. A pivot.
This blog, this work that I love, had been given control of way more of my life than it should have last year. And I was the one who allowed that to happen.
Make no mistake, I LOVE what I do. Love. It. And I plan to keep creating, writing, sharing, and (my most favorite ever) encouraging YOU, my girls. Yes, I count you all as “my girls”. 🙂
It just will most likely look a little different than last year. My priorities are shifting – with more of my attention, my focus back on my family. Where it should be.
Are they scarred for life? Of course not.
They are by far my biggest cheerleaders and often are the ones helping me pull off my biggest projects. And I want more time with them.
I only have 3 more years until my oldest graduates high school. THREE MORE YEARS. (I can’t even). And I won’t even count how many years I have with my youngest. And that’s assuming I’ll *get* those years.
It all boils down to this: I want freedom – for the best of me to be poured into my family. Not my work – as much as I love it.
Freedom to be fully present with my family.
I do hope you’ll stick around for the ride. I have no idea what 2018 will look like for me and my family and the blog.
I anticipate more:
- Healthy home, healthy life.
Whatever it looks like, rest assured that you’ll always find encouragement for your own home and your own life here at 1915 House.
