Some time ago, I spent a LOT of money on “specialty paint” for my kitchen cabinets – it was supposed to be the best stuff ever. Guaranteed to not yellow or look nasty for many, many moons. Yeah….that wasn’t the case.
So…let’s chat over coffee about something no one wants to talk about. Kitchen cabinet paint failure. A couple summers ago I took our dark and dated cabinets and gave them a facelift. The initial effect was lovely. They were bright white and well, combined with our newly painted floors, the whole room made me smile.
Unfortunately, after all the blood, sweat, and tears (ok, maybe not so much blood, but definitely sweat and tears) – MY CABINETS STARTED YELLOWING! The first time I noticed it, I prayed it was maybe just the lighting. So I kept watching. Continually attributing it to the light. Until one day, I could deny it no longer. The cabinets were SO YELLOW.
*cue all the bitter tears*
So much work, so much effort….for yellow cabinets in under a year. I’ll be honest. We’ve lived with them like that for a year and a half – just because the task is so daunting. After much researching and asking All The Many Questions, I’ve decided to use the tutorial from my girlfriend, Kim over at Farmhouse Made. Check out her drop-dead-gorgeous kitchen here!
She keeps it real. No “done in a weekend” or “fast and easy” lies. Nope. For those of us in real life, trying to wrangle kids, and family, and jobs…THIS is the method I’ll be using. No-nonsense. No hype. Praise be.
So this is me putting this “out there” as an accountability post. I WILL get these cabinets done yet this summer – I really have to. I don’t think I can handle yellowed cabinets for another winter. *cringe*
What’s been a project that made you cringe once it was done? What didn’t turn out the way you thought it would? Tell me I’m not alone… 🙂
